General information and cast
On May 29th, 2017 the first season of the periodic drama series Still Star Crossed premiered on the ABC Network with seven episodes. The series is produced by ShondaLand and executive produced by Mark Wilding, Michael R. Goldstein, Michael Offer and Heather Mitchell, who also adapted the eponymous book by Melinda Taub for the television series. The strong cast are led by Lashana Lynch as Rosaline Capulet, Wade Briggs as Benvolio Montague and Torrance Coombs as Count Paris. Ebonée Noel, Medalion Rahimi, Sterling Sulieman, Zuleikha Robinson and Grant Bowler also star.
Still Star Crossed picks up where the famous story about Romeo and Juliet ends and kicks off in the midst of all the treachery, intrigue and ill-fated romances between the Montagues and Capulets in the wake of Romeo and Juliet’s tragic deaths. In the ever dramatic world of William Shakespeare’s play, the lives of the long feuding families continue to cause havoc and even more tragedy on one another.
Overall ratings and no season 2
The very dramatic story of Romeo and Juliet doesn’t end with their deaths – that should be reason alone to watch this high caliber series, but even the incredible fact that superbrain Shonda Rhimes is behind this show, the lady who brought us our most favorite television series to date, cannot save this periodic drama from falling. Beautifully made and a very strong cast could not help the fact, that the storyline and plot didn’t kick it off as they should have. Some critics even call the acting poor. When ABC then moved the show from its prime Monday spot to Saturdays after a significant drop in viewing numbers, the fate of the show was clear. Torrance Coombs confirmed on his very own Twitter that the show won’t be renewed for a second season.
