General series info
The first season of the reality competition TV series The Toy Box premiered on ABC with eight episodes on April 7th, 2017 and has since returned with a second installment, which kicked off on October 1st, 2017 with brand new episodes. The show is produced by Electus, Hud:sun Media and Mattel and is executive produced by Catherine Balsam-Schwaber, Drew Buckley, Richard Dickson, Chris Grant, Susan House and Michael Rourke, just to name a few. The hilarious Eric Stonestreet is the host.
Ordinary people come to a panel of judges to present their toy inventions to land the ultimate deal – being mass produced by toy giant Mattel and then having their product sold in all the Toys “R” Us worldwide. For this dream, some of the candidates have sold their houses to finance their inventions and gave up their entire livelihoods to support this idea of becoming the next big thing in one of the toughest industries in the world, the toy industry. And their lives are being decided by the judges, who are in fact kids. In the first season, the candidates were also vetted by a group of successful toy professionals, but the second season scraped this entire step and instead added brand new judges – apart from the series’ favorite Noah Ritter.
