About the series
ABC has launched a new game show Big Fan on January 9, 2017 with two back-to-back episodes. The program was created by Jimmy Kimmel and produced by Kimmel, David Goldberg and Caroline Baumgard at Smo King Baby and Banjay Studios North America. Actor and writer Andy Richter (Conan) acts as the presenter.
The show hails from a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and follows three contenders as they face their celebrity or sports star idol and answer questions about their biography and other related trivia. The final round of questioning is conducted one-on-one between the celebrity guest and the most knowledgeable of the three fans. The first two episodes featured Matthew McConaughey and NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and the following pair of episodes introduced Kim Kardashian West and Kristen Bell and their super fans. There is no award for the guests besides the “priceless experience with the celebrity”.
Average ratings and chances of renewal
Big Fan debuted with mediocre viewership ratings, garnering an audience of 3.5 million viewers for the McConaughey episode, and going down to 2.8 million for the subsequent episode that involved Rodgers. The demo rating was equally unimpressive, at 1.0 and 0.7 respectively. On the following week the demo rating remained on par with the series premiere, but the numbers went down to 3 and 2.2 million, respectively. Whether or not ABC considers renewing the show for another season is not immediately clear, so please stay tuned for network announcements.
