Summary and plot

Based on the Texas revolution against the Mexican rule, Texas Rising is an American television series that airs on the History Channel. The series was filmed in Durango, Mexico and follows the events of the 1830’s, when tensions began to rise between the Mexican General Santa Anna and the U.S. President Andrew Jackson. Texas Rising Season 1 premiered on the History Channel on May 25, 2015.

In this series, the creators reenact the events of and those that led up to the Texas Revolution. A mix of historic events and poetic license, it portrays how General Tom Houston and Steve Austin were able to bring the people of Texas together and led them in a fight that ended Santa Anna’s tyranny and created an independent state of Texas.

Current season, ratings and renewal chances

The series has been met with mixed reviews, with some critics saying that it is offensive and unfocused. Scoring 52 out of 100 on Metacritic and 13% on Rotten Tomatoes, the series may be poor enough to not return for another season, although there hasn’t been any official news from the producers. As such, at this time, it is not certain whether we will see Texas Rising Season 2 in the future. Fans will have to check back or sign up for our notifications to stay updated.

The beauty of this series really comes from the authenticity of the locations, sets, weaponry, costume and dress of the actors. It's gorgeous to watch, with action and intrigue to spare. It's a mix of tragedy and drama and tragicomedy and melodrama. All these parts add up to a filmmaker's vision that of entertainment first and foremost and literal history a distant second. In these pretentious, uber-sophisticated times where male critics must display more estrogen than would have allowed them to survive out of infancy in Texas of that era, sure, it got slammed for all its sins against political correctness. But it's a rousing series, there are great performances from talented actors, and the period dressing is a visual treat. I hope (and probably against hope in these Barbie-mesmerized times) that we get Season Two. If not, thanks, Mr. Joffe, for a rollicking good ride!

Please bring it back we really enjoy it and proud of Texans heritage. Back then life was hard, but it taught how we have overcome as the Texans and people.

Having just discovered the show I couldn’t stop watching it. Westerns are my favorite. I realize that it isn’t based on historical fact but that doesn’t take from the great acting and storyline. Please bring it back. I can’t wait to see what second season has to say. For those who don’t want to watch it- they have a choice. Likewise, for those who do- there are a great many fans.

Just finished watching this mini-series and actually enjoyed it. Yes, the story played fast and loose with history, but knowing the actual history, I could ignore it. There are some very good performances and some average ones, but the obvious attention to costuming and vintage weapons made me willing to indulge in this 10-episode epic.
The portrayal of Hispanic and Native Americans was one-sided, but any educated person must realize that this is fiction. The scenes can be brutal, but reflect the savagery of the time and place. As to place, the gorgeous scenery of Sonora, Mexico is far more grandiose than southern Texas (I love Texas, having lived and served in San Antonio, Ft. Bliss and Ft. Hood.)
I would advise anyone who has not seen “Texas Rising” to just relax and enjoy. The younger kids, however, should pass. For teens and above, the series can lead to discussions of history.

Just finished the season and now only finding out season 2 was cancelled. I loved the show, had a fantastic cast. One of the best westerns series I've seen in a long time.

Bring it back on the air please.
If people are offended then your doing something right and they will not repeat history.
History is not there for you to like it’s there to learn from. My husband and I bought the first Texas rising on DVD and watch it at lest once a year. And would be happy to do the same with the second.

I am sadden to see how political correctness censors the truth of our history. Yes it was hard and a terrible time for everyone as those before us forged out great country.

It IS offensive, but Texas politics ARE offensive. They were then, they are now. One of the things that is wrong with most versions of history is how much we "clean it up" so as not only to not offend anyone, but because we don't like to admit that a lot of our history is ugly. I dislike the politics then and now, but I really like the show. I like the acting. The script is well-written and if it is hard to watch, that's because the truth isn't pretty and the people weren't (mostly) particularly nice, decent, or kind. We need more history that isn't what people want to hear, but might actually reflect the truth as we know it. ☺
