Two of the funniest British actors team up in this hilarious comedy called Detectorists, which airs on the network BBC Four and kicked off with its season 3 on November 8, 2017 with six brand new episodes. The incredible Mackenzie Crook stars as Andy Stone and his sidekick Lance Stater is played by Toby Jones. The two men aren’t exactly what you’d call the cream of the crop, but the duo has one big passion that unites them – searching for buried treasures with their metal detectors in the hope for the one big find that would change their lives forever. All is good until a rival metal detector club shows up. The Award-winning show won a BAFTA and Jones was also nominated for his performance on Detectorists and the overall approval ratings currently boast a whopping 8.6 out of 10 stars on IMDb, but none of that matters, as the BBC had already announced that the third season would also be the last installment for this show. The last and final episode of season 3 of Detectorists will air on December 13th, 2017.

I have just watched this brilliant series, how I missed it first time I don’t know. A real treat why oh why is there not going to be any more. Well written good acting ticking all the boxes for an excellent series. Please let’s have series 4 of the detectorists

Just binged watched this show July 24/25th 2023 , loved it such an easy heart warning show to watch , sad to see this was originally aired a good few years ago, and there isn’t a series 4 :(((:

This show needs to return . Just sat and watched them all this week . The 2022 special finished at such a good point to makes new series on it. This NEEDS bringing back!!!! Hopefully they see how many people want this and it makes a come back [hands]

The BBC did not cancel the show. It was the choice of Mackenzie Crook who wrote and acted in it and felt the show had come to a natural conclusion. Not sure why ppl are blaming the BBC in the comments. I absolutely loved this gentle gem and binged watched all three seasons in 2 days. This was a global hit worldwide and is currently in the top ten on Netflix. This is pure happy escapism. I would love there to be more Seasons and we need more British feel good shows like this.

You've just aired the special at the end of 2022, which was left open for a fourth series, surely it would make sense to take a fresh look at the option to continue. Even if was just another special to answer the many questions left open. At least give the fans a proper conclusion.

Just found this and binged watched all of it in a couple of days absolutely brilliant please bring it back .It is great tv I haven’t laughed so much for ages we need to find out what happens at the end with the gold coins falling out the tree .can’t believe we have only just found it after all these years best thing on television .

Just Watched all 3 series on Netflix, and thanks to the person on this thread who said there is a special on BBC iPlayer. Found a 74 minute special from 2022 that ties everything together. Just brilliant. Mackenzie Crook is one talented guy, along with everyone else involved. The best thing I’ve watched in a very long time. Loved MC in the newer version Worzel Gummidge too.

Absolutely love this show - beautifully written and acted. Funny, endearing, observant and clever…the perfect watch. Heartbroken that there won’t be a fourth series…surely the BBC should rethink their actions and get it back on the telly instead of the current reality rubbish that keeps being shown.

I’m bereft! Late to the show and finished binge watching all 3 seasons in 2 sittings! Absolutely love the show and very upset the BBC have decided to pull it and no season 4! Why! This show is on a par with after life and better than so many other shows. Is it because it doesn’t translate overseas and therefore they can sell it outside UK! BBC More interested in their scandals to give the public what they want !! Shame, shame , shame!

Why oh why cancel this brilliant series?! I could watch it all day long. It is a gorgeous series with a tremendous cast. I've already watched the series three times. Typical BBC! Is there anyone at the BBC who understands the concept of "licence fee payers love a show, ie tons of viewers, want to watch more of the series". Oh I know, thinks dimwits anon, let's not approve another series, there are too many viewers who would love to watch it! Very disappointed. Dear Mackenzie Crook, can you not get another channel to do it, it's just too brilliant a series...cast, scenery, dialogue, plotline, everything is superb.

Absolutely Typical of the BBC and their Arrogant attitude towards the British Viewing Public. Anything that is remotely popular is chopped so that they can throw God Awful Alternative Programs at us time and time again. If people keep criticising the BBC for their Stupidity in Cancelling anything popular, then perhaps you should start listening to your Customers, but We have no Choice do we, you are the British Broadcasting Corporation and you will do what you want, not what the public wants. The detectorists is simply wonderful. This is terribly sad that a 4th season has been cancelled. I hope they change their mind. They have put together a magic cast and something we really looked forward to watching on the BBC. Could the BBC consider selling this show to another terrestrial Provider?

I’ve rewatched all 3 series 3 times now. This is an exceptional heart warming drama with a wonderful array of characters. Tony Jones is brilliant and McKensie Crook just outstanding. I never realised Becky Sterling was the late Dianna Rigg’s daughter in real life which added another dimension. I don’t know why season 4 was cancelled but I would urge all parties to resolve the issues. This needs to be concluded in a fourth series with the find of a Saxon horde. Please rethink. It’ll be worth it.

This is an exceptional piece of writing and acting. It is sensitive, endearing, moving, utterly hilarious and something many of us can truly relate to and feel very "at home" watching. I cannot begin to understand why the BBC would cancel a 4th series of this wonderfully heartwarming programme. Please re-consider, it is truly one of THE best ever!
