Series info and concept
On December 12, 2016 BBC Four has launched the third series of the technological game show Time Commanders. It has originally premiered in 2003, resurfaced in 2005 and was revived over a decade later, debuting on December 12, 2016. Created by Adam MacDonald and produced by Lion Television, the series is currently presented by Gregg Wallace and features game engines developed by The Creative Assembly.
The premise of the show entails the reenactment of historic battles by two teams of three contestants each week, after they are debriefed regarding the context of the battle, terrain quality, available military units, and other relevant info. They subsequently develop a strategy for the battle and act on it within the simulation developed by history experts. It is an interesting blend of game show and historic docu-series, with military experts analyzing and commenting on the players' performance and comparing their actions to what actually ensued many years ago.
