Blood Drive Canceled: Syfy Says No to Season 2

UPDATED September 12, 2017: Having wrapped up its debut 13-episode installment less than a week ago, the Syfy network’s newest action drama will not be back on our small screens – Blood Drive Season 2 has been officially cancelled. With a rather strong opening of more than 0.8 million viewers, the gory sci-fi series has only managed to attract 0.36 million viewers for the finale, so the cancellation decision did not surprise us a bit.

The concept of cars driving on blood isn’t new, as well as the bloody and gory concept of this warped and insane new Syfy series Blood Drive. The weird thing is that everybody, including the critics, doesn’t expect too much of this show to begin with, putting it firmly into the B-Movie category, but that is also why this new show works so well. Will Blood Drive rake up numerous prestigious Awards? No. Will this show ever become as powerful as Game Of Thrones or Walking Dead? No. Is it entertainingly absurd, bizarre, sexy, futuristic, barbaric, as well as hilarious and funny – if you are a lover of this type of genre? YES! So far, the overall ratings are surprisingly strong, with 7.2 out of 10 stars on IMDb, 7.8 out of 10 stars on TV.com and 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

General information and cast

The very first season of Syfy’s new action adventure comedy Blood Drive premiered on June 14th, 2017 with thirteen episodes. Created by James Roland, the series is produced by Strong & Dobbs Productions and Universal Cable Productions and executive produced by Fredrik Malmberg, John Hlavin and David Straiton. Blood Drive was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa and the main cast are Alan Ritchson as Arthur Bailey, Christina Ochoa as Grace D'Argento, Thomas Dominique as Christopher Carson, Marama Corlett as Aki and Colin Cunningham as Julian Slink.

The title Blood Drive is more literal than one might expect at first. The show is set in a futuristic dystopia, where everything has completely changed into a rather brutal and violent world. Climate change has temperatures soaring and water is as valuable as gold, crime is everywhere and it seems that the very few remaining good cops are losing their battle with their environment and with themselves. Arthur Bailey is one of those last good cops, but – for a case – he finds himself joining forces with the dangerous femme fatale Grace, who will take him along on the most dangerous cross country race, literally about life and death. Those, who arrive at certain checkpoints last, have their heads blown up and the racecars don’t run on fuel, they run on human blood. Bailey’s partner Chris starts an investigation into his partner’s disappearance.
