TLC could almost be an abbreviation for “Tattoo Live Coverage”, as this channel launched yet another tattoo reality TV show on January 24th, 2017, which is produced by Big Fish Entertainment. Besides the already well known Tattoo series “America’s Worst Tattoos” and then “NY Ink” and “LA Ink” – this one is a reality show about an all-female tattoo and piercing shop in the middle of Springfield, Missouri. Producer Sean Hogan is very familiar with this topic, as he was also involved with Spike’s “Tattoo Nightmares”.
As with all reality TV shows – we get to follow the girls from Ink Ink, a small tattoo shop in the birthplace of Route 66, Springfield, Missouri. Kelsey, the owner of Ink Ink, single mom Nikki, lead artist Megan, piercing pro Brittany and Liz, originally from Dallas in Texas, all star in this series. With all girls in such a small town shop it is only a matter of time, before the drama ensues and sparks start to fly – even though the girls have known each other and been best friends for a very long time.
Viewership ratings and possibilities of renewal
So far, the overall consensus of this not exactly new concept of a reality show is rather negative, as some remarks in the show’s teaser already sparked an immediate outrage, when Kelsey deemed Springfield as a small-minded town. They even started petitions on Facebook and Change.org to take down the show! Whether this actually boosted Tattoo Girls (as negative press sometimes does) and viewer ratings or if this damaged the show is anyone’s guess, really. The ratings that are available aren’t exactly great, but they aren’t terrible either. We will simply have to wait and see, if TLC will cancel or renew this Tattoo Girls for season 2.
