Summary and production info
Oh, where to begin! This hilarious comedy is without a doubt one of the strangest TV series out there. And I say that, because season one with its twelve episodes was originally first released in September 2011 and just now – five years later! – the second season came out, but with only half the number of episodes. Produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and Rhombus Media Michael: Every Day premiered on January 15th this year and the executive producers are Bob Martin, who also plays one of the main characters, and Don McKellar, who also directed the series together with Alison Maclean and Patricia Rozema.
Michael: Every Day is a Canadian TV series formerly known as Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays and tells the story of the rather warped psychiatrist Dr. David Storper (Bob Martin) and his patient Michael Dyer, played by Matt Watts. Michael is a young man of just thirty years old, who suffer from a severe case of anxiety towards the most menial things, such as busses, bridges, cats, strangers and girls. He has been seeing his doctor for 15 years and believes that he is the one person who can help him. All the while it is his doctor, who literally abuses his relationship with Michael as a testing ground for his new book. In other roles we also get to see Tommie-Amber Pirie as Claire Webb, Jennifer Irwin as Sammy Dunbar and Edward Asner as Dr. Wassermann.
Reviews and renewal information
IMDb's overall rating sits comfortably at 7.5 out of 10 and being a Nominee for the Canadian Screen Award, the show certainly has the critics on its side. However, the viewing figures were rather low. Weirdly enough, it was the series' premiere episode, which only drew 199,000 people in, but the episodes thereafter then averaged around 250,000 viewers. As of now, no details were released with regards to a cancellation or renewal of the show and the question would be, if we would have to wait yet another five years anyway, to find out. As it stands, it's anyone's guess, if we will get to see yet another installment of Michael: Every Day and a season 3.
