About the series
Based on the eponymous original movie, the TV crime series Training Day premiered on February 2nd, 2017 on CBS. The production studios are big names such as Warner Bros. Television and Jerry Bruckheimer Television, whereas the executive producers are non other than Jerry Bruckheimer himself (also known for the CSI series and Lucifer) as well as Jonathan Littman, Kristie Anne Reed and Will Beall, who is also the creator and writer of the show.
Training Day is the somewhat typical story of a rookie officer, who is teamed up with a corrupt cop. In this case we get to see Justin Cornwell in his role as SIS officer and Bill Paxton in his last role as Detective Frank Roarke, who has a slightly warped idea of how things work – to put it mildly. Other characters such as Holly Butler, played by Julie Benz, Frank's high maintenance lady friend and Detective Rebecca Lee, who – thanks to Frank – escaped a gruesome trafficking ring back when she was a child, complete the picture.
Current season, reviews and renewal
Unfortunately, since it's premiere in February this year, the show hasn't really impressed anybody and received rather negative critique overall, which is mainly attributed to the fact that the TV action series does not reach the excellent level we got to see in the same-name movie. Average ratings fall below the middle mark with only 4.2 out of 10 points on Rotten Tomatoes and 39 out of 100 on Metacritic, which indicates a rather lame viewing experience. So, the question of whether we will get to see a second season of this show almost answers itself. Another very sad reason is also the sudden passing of actor Bill Paxton on February 25th, 2017, who played the rather important main role of Frank Roarke. It was announced that the creators won't cast another actor for this role, should there be a season 2 of Training Day.
