Series concept and production info

American Heroes Channel introduced a new historical documentary series that hails from Cream Productions and is executive produced by Kate Harrison, David Brady and Max Culhane. Blood and Fury: America's Civil War contains six episodes that began airing on December 14, 2016.

The audience is transported to an era that was pivotal in American history, the greatest internal struggle that is chronicled in the series that features ambitious dramatic reenactments and their explanations by experts. Each of the episodes centers on one of the key battles of the American Civil War, telling the story from a soldier's point of view. The six battles revisited are the Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Fredericksburg, Battle of Gettysburg, Battle of Nashville and Battle of Petersburg.

Negative reviews and chances of renewal

The freshman installment premiered to 0.2 million viewers with a 0.06 demo rating. The following week the demo rating edged down to 0.04, but the viewership actually went up to 0.25 million viewers. The series is a mix of reenactments and analysis, and critics tend to agree that more of the latter and less of the former would have done the series a lot of good. Blood and Fury: America's Civil War has a rather horrid 2.0/10 IMDb rating, and is universally slammed for the inaccuracy of the recreations, bad acting, and generally improper representation of both sides of the conflict. It's not clear whether there may be a second season of the show, since it is a rather self-contained historical subject matter, but there are many ways to work around that if the show was more successful ratings-wise.
