About the show
A Canadian-American reality comedy series, Unusually Thicke originally premiered in 2014, with the 14-episode second season following on September 21, 2016. The show is broadcast on Pop. The series is written and executive produced by Carrie Hall-Mudd and Alan Thicke, and produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment in Canada.
A fictionalized portrayal of the life of Alan Thicke filmed in a reality series format, Unusually Thicke also features his wife Tanya Callau and their son Carter as the main cast members. Brennan and Robin Thicke, the adult sons of the couple, make a limited number of appearances. Bill Maher, David Hasselhof. Bob Saget, Wayne Gretzky and John Stamos were among the guest stars during season one, and the current installment features Lou Ferrigno, Wayne Brady, Alex Trebeck, Kato Kaelin, Cat Cora and many other celebrities on the guest star roster.
Strong ratings and potential renewal
The show has become an unexpectedly successful venture for the star, Canadian actor Alan Thicke, with solid ratings in both the United States and Canada. However, the critics have not been particularly impressed with the series, and IMDb reviewers have granted it a mere 4.7/10. The pseudo-reaity genre works very well in this case and makes the show very entertaining, with a twist of self-depreciation. No announcements regarding a third season have yet been made by Pop, but it is likely that the fans will see a third season of Unusually Thicke with more relatable and unusual challenges in the life of the Thicke family.
