About the show

Quarry is a new Memphis-set criminal drama based on Max Allen Collins novels. It is created by Graham Gordy and Michael D. Fuller and is a collaborative effort by HBO Entertainment, Anonymous Content, Night Sky Productions and One Olive. The freshman season, which debuted on Cinemax on September 9, 2016, contains eight one-hour episodes.

This is a narrative about Mac Conway, an ex-Marine who comes back home from Vietnam in 1972, only to find himself ostracized by the community. He attempts to reconcile his war experiences and adjust to life in peace, but becomes involved in an extensive criminal network along the Mississippi river, where he is hired as a hitman for The Broker, a mysterious criminal boss.

Viewership ratings and renewal prospects

The dark horse of the fall television premiere lineup, Quarry has already earned itself an 8.5/10 IMDb score and a 72% rating on Metacritic. However, it debuted with a lackluster demo rating of 0.06 with 182,000 viewers tuning in. The following week was not marked by any significant changes in viewership, with the demo rating remaining the same, while the audience edged down to 173,000. The show is praised for its gritty and complex storytelling and superb performance by Marshall-Green and the rest of the ensemble cast. The 1970s Memphis is gorgeously portrayed, but some of the critics have come down on the pacing of the series, which, according to them, could be a bit more dynamic. Please stay tuned for the news on a potential second season of Quarry.

Season 1 recap

The eight-episode freshman season of Cinemax' s criminal drama Quarry has wrapped up on October 28, 2016. The ambitious and visually impressive season finale portrayed Mac settling an old score with an enemy from the past, namely, his former commanding officer, and confronting the war demons that have haunted him since his return from Vietnam. Elsewhere, Buddy and Ruth's relationship turned out to be destined for heartbreak, and the trouble got a lot worse for Marcus and his mom. While the ending can hardly be called a happy one, it was satisfying and brought closure. Unfortunately, the series' ratings were unimpressive, with the season finale viewed by a mere 0.18 million viewers, approximating the average viewership for the season. The critical reception, however, has been warm enough for a potential second chapter to be commissioned, so please stay tuned, and we will inform you when Cinemax makes a decision on whether to renew Quarry for season two.

Meh, show sucked. Watched the whole series to finish what I started and was hoping all the way through it was going to get better. It didn't. Wasted a few hours of my life on this garbage. Not the least bit interested to watch anymore.

This show was dope! Who is this guy? The main character is great and has such potential for acting. Ignore the low ratings I have every cable channel and this show was barely advertised and Cinemax isn't exactly known for it's series type shows, I just stumbled upon Quarry myself and was lucky I did I got way into it and the way the season connected in the season finale blew me away. Don't f it up like you did Banshee Cinemax, bring me on for consulting if need be and get this baby seen for Jesus sake it's a masterpiece in the making I'll blow my brains out if I don't see it renewed for a season 2. Tv and movies nowadays seem to lack that 90's grit but Quarry brings it back for me it's got great potential don't let it slip through the cracks!
