Newzoids is a British topical comedy puppet show that’s currently broadcasting its second series, which premiered on September 3, 2016. The show is executive produced by Phil Chalk and Caroline Norris and co-produced by Citrus Television and Factory. Both series contain six half-hour episodes, and both have aired at a time that concurred with politically significant events. Series 1 broadcast coincided with May 2015 general election, and the air time of the second installment precedes the United States presidential elections.

The satirical slapstick comedy series features puppets of celebrities from various walks of life, with one episode per series devoted to each of the following categories: politics, sport, television, royalty, musicians and other. A crafty combination of live action puppets and CGI-based action forms the foundation for show’s comedy sketches.

Current season, viewership and potential renewal

Sadiq Khan, Donald Trump, the Clintons, Angela Merkel, Michael Phelps, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tyson Fury, Caitlyn Jenner, Bear Grylls, Tom Hiddleston, Keith Lemon, Ozzy Osbourne and numerous other puppets are all a part of the program this year. Jon Culshaw, Debra Stephenson and Lewis MacLeod are the voices behind the characters.

The show initially received mixed reviews, as did its 1980s prototype Splitting Image. Just as the latter program has learned from its mistakes and gradually gained momentum and popularity, running for twelve years, hopefully, so will Newzoids. The current chapter debuted strongly, with 2.77 millions tuning in to watch the premiere episode, which gives hope for a potential renewal. Stay tuned, and we’ll bring you the latest news.
