Series information and main premise
On August 22, 2016 Freeform has launched Cheer Squad, a reality series that follows The Great White Sharks cheerleading team. The series is produced by Corus Entertainment’s ABC Spark and Good Human Productions and executive produced by Claire Freeland and contains ten 60-minute episodes. The series is broadcast in an unusual manner – episodes air nightly on weekdays over two weeks.
The Great White Sharks are an all-star team that has been crowned world champions twice, and they are continually working on defending that title. The show portrays their grueling training schedule as well as more universally relatable school issues and personal lives with the usual set of relationships, friendships and part-time jobs. This group of young elite athletes is an inspiration to the fans of competitive cheerleading. The Cambridge, Ontario-based team is working on accomplishing a highly coveted three-peat, and the season finale will reveal whether their efforts amounted to this accomplishment.
Ratings and possibility of renewal
The spirited show premiered to ratings that were not particularly impressive – 0.189 million viewers and a 0.1 demo rating. Throughout its run the viewership did not significantly change, and neither did the demo rating. Whether Freeform finds these numbers satisfactory and renews the show for a second season is not clear at this point, so please stay tuned and we’ll make sure you are among the first to find out the news.
