Series info and storyline
Scott & Bailey is a critically acclaimed British detective drama series that's been broadcast on ITV since 2011 and has just completed its final fifth series, which premiered on April 13, 2016. The criminal drama was based on an idea by Sally Lindsay and Suranne Jones, created by Diane Taylor and Sally Wainwright and written by Wainwright, Amelia Bullmore, Lee Warburton and Emily Ballou. Wainwright, Jones, Tom Sherry and Nicole Schindler acted as executive producers for Scott & Bailey, which was produced by Red Production Company.
Two female police officers, DC, DS, and subsequently Acting Detective Inspector Rachel Bailey (Suranne Jones) and Detective Constable Janet Scott (Lesley Sharp) are investigating murders at a Manchester unit. They have very different personalities, one more motherly, another more immature, but in spite of that (or, perhaps, due to that exact reason) form a very strong bond. The gritty criminal drama is as much about the investigations as about the relationship between the two women.
Reviews, ratings and cancelation
The series fared well in the ratings department throughout the course of its run. It has a 7.9/10 IMDb score, and is praised for being frank and down-to-earth, compelling criminal cases and the dynamics between the leads. Scott & Bailey has originally premiered to 7.3 million viewers, has followed a slight downward trend for four series, but the current – and final – fifth series has reversed that trend, picking up significantly and premiering to over 5 million viewers. Nonetheless, the creators of the show have made a cancelation decision, so that the show bows out while still on a high, so, unfortunately, it's time to bid farewell to one of the audience's favorite investigator duos.

Of course, Suranne Jones went on to play the multidimensional Dr. Foster, which was fabulous.
