About the show

Banshee is a US action and criminal drama television series airing on Cinemax since 2013. The show's fourth and final season, which contains eight episodes, was scheduled to premiere on January 29, 2016, but has in fact debuted on April 1, 2016.

After serving a 15-year prison term con artist and master thief Lucas Hood (Anthony Starr) is released from jail, and takes on an identity of a deceased sheriff in the fictional Pennsylvanian town of Banshee. His own brand of justice is imposed on an Amish town that wasn't all-too-quiet to begin with. Meanwhile, he has to sort out his relationship with Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic), his lover and accomplice since before his imprisonment, and deal with the ongoing problems in Banshee, PA.

Viewership and potential renewal

Banshee has averaged approximately 500,000 viewers per episode for the first two seasons, with the third chapter getting close to a 600,000 average. The current season seems to have lost some momentum, having premiered to 356,000 viewers, with viewership dropping to 277,000 for the second episode. Cinemax's highest-rated series will bow out due to a creative choice stemming from the story's logical and natural conclusion, not a cancelation decision. The writing team has written the fourth season with an understanding that it will end with a grand finale for the whole Banshee series, series' creator John Trooper announced in the summer of 2015. While on a certain level it's clearly good for a show to end when the creators have nothing further to say and decide to bow out in style, many fans of what has become a true hit with a cult following are truly disappointed.

Banshee was easily the best thing on TV, All the shows of this ilk, apart from one or two couldn't get away with multiple series, zombies, cult serial killers, etc etc all really had nowhere to go but Banshee!! Every series had a different slant on it which made it compelling!!! The writers need to get their [censored] together and keep it going, easily another 2 or 3 series in this!!! Bring back HOOD!!!!

Banshee is such an excelllent show. I stopped watching tv shows for a very long time, however, when Dexter and Banchee premiered...i knew they were still creative minds out there that brought back the creativity and fun in tv that i used to love. There are endless [censored] for tv shows until Banshee and Dexter came along. Thanks to the brilliant minds that brought us these brilliant shows. I certainly wished there would be a season 5 of banshee, but im sure the creative team knew what they were doing when bringing the final season to the end.

The movie Banshee is very interesting movie i really enjoy it, and i believe the movie is not supposed to end in season 4 just like that, I think there is season 5 perhaps the producer is adjusting or correcting on movie that is why its delay, please we are expecting season 5 give us in time, thanks. :lol:

Honestly i could say that there is much more to write about HOOD and JOB. Ironically speaking you should not give up.....!!!

One of my favorite series, I would love to watch a season 5 but I can understand if the creator John Trooper may feel like ending it in Season 4, there's very little they could actually do for season 5 I feel, besides do a New York styled Season 5 but that also kind of runs with the New York theme the currently popular new hit show Blindspot. Big fan of the both shows and I know that if they made a season 5 that it could work especially if they brought the original theme of the two Hood & Anna doing heists again.

However I completely understand if they left this show concluded in Season 4 as leaving a show on a good note is a very intelligent way to end a show. Dexter for example I felt could have concluded one season earlier as the writing and anticlimax ending of Dexter went a bit South in my opinion.

Unbelievable that such a well-acted and written series could be cancelled. At the very least a spin-off continuation could be developed and additional story themes are there to be developed. Enough was left in suspense and there is so much more to tell on the future of Hood and Job. The show was not promoted enough and could have had a much larger audience if the effort had been made. Everything about it was well done including the soundtrack selections. Bring it back!!!

Hi I'm from Australia and had never heard of Banshee until a friend that works in a large video store told me about it, I have now just finished season 4 and am very disappointed that season 5 has been canned. From the very first episode I was hooked. So am at a loss to find a show with as much grit as Banshee

Hi there! I just finished to watch season 4 finale , literally i had a tear in my eyes after seeing such an terrific Group of friends watching it such a great time :oops: and full of immaculate series of Drama. it shouldn't be done, new season should be introduced, a lot of things could be continued it, Banshee has a huge popularity in our Ind-Pak subcontinent.

:sad: Very sad to see Banshee season 5 cancelled, iv'e just finished watching all 4 seasons and was glued to each program, two three story lines at once, crossing over with some of the same fantastic characters which I think was the making of the show. Crossdressing Jobe could have a show of his own. I don't think these series got the promotion they deserve :cry:

Banshee is one of the best series for years.
The characters are great.
As usual the Channel producing a great series makes a dreadful decision.
I have watched all 4 seasons back to back usually 2 episodes a night when possible.
Cancelling it is a huge error.

Can second that. The viewing figures have surprised me, seems more a marketing issue than a product issue as we've thoroughly enjoyed banshee but stumbled across it rather than through promotion/recommendation. Very sad to see it end.

The sequence of events as they evolved over the seasons kept you in awe and the punishment of bodies
Extend season 5 with a different story line and happy ending
