A new American thriller/mystery television series, The Family has premiered on ABC on March 3, 2016 and has moved to its regular time slot on March 6, 2016. Jenna Bans is the series creator and executive producer, and Minnesota Logging Company, Mandeville Television and ABC Studios are behind the production.

The Family focuses on the Warren family and, in particular, on Claire Warren (Joan Allen), the matriarch of her clan and an ambitious Republican mayor of Red Pines, Maine, a fictional town. The storyline starts unfolding as Adam, Claire's young son, comes back ten years after being kidnapped, while Claire is planning to run for governor.

Impressive ratings, reviews and renewal prospects

The series opened to an impressive 5.7 million viewers, a 1.5 18-49 demo rating and a share of 5. It has subsequently lost more that half of its audience by the 4th episode, which attracted an audience of just 2.64 million viewers, and scored a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demo, and a share of 2.. With quite a few more episodes to air in the current 13-episode season, we have yet to see whether The Family has reached a plateau or will continue losing ground. The reviews are mixed, slating towards positive, with most viewers finding the story believable and captivating, although some complaints of predictable dialogue and poor casting do exist. Is there another season coming? There seems to be a decent chance of a renewal, but it's not entirely predictable and will certainly depend on the ratings dynamics. UPDATED May 13, 2016: ABC's freshman drama The Family has not been able to stay afloat beyond the first season, having been canceled today along with numerous other shows. It has not delivered impressive ratings, averaging 4.4 million viewers in L+3 and a 13 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The series finale is set to air on May 15 at 9/8c, and it is unlikely to provide an answer to the major question posed over the course of the season – whether Adam is indeed who he claims to be. We'll just have to fill in the blanks in our imagination.

Honestly. This has been the only show that has a decent and captivating plot lone and they cancel it but other shows far worse is still on air. Ridiculous

My heart is broken. I've been waiting to see when this show would be returning. I LOVE the show. I don't understand how they could end it like they did. There HAS to be a Season 2.

The Family was great and my whole family loved it.... sooo do wish it comes back on.. people have their diifferent opinions about tv shows, theres some i like and don't like, so don't be rude to the one that love the family show... IT WAS GREAT SHOW

Omg maybe enough people didn't know about the show, I found out about it from a friend and I was hooked from the first episode until the last, I think that maybe it needs a different channel but t sucks to cancel it........ :sad: :-| :cry: So it's obvious that the ones who love this show has no say so in the matter. We finally get an opportunity to have a wonderful story line and a cast that can deliver and they choose to cancel because their numbers don't match with how people "really" watch t.v. Nowadays everyone can't sit down in front of the t.v. and actually watch a show "on time" "when it airs" we do have other things that come up. I enjoyed this show so much I got my mom hooked to it and it takes a lot for her to really enjoy a t.v. show. Sooooo many questions, soooo many thoughts just to drop the bomb of NO SEASON 2.

Ok I really need Season 2 you can't just cancel a show that has been one of the best story lines EVER !!!! Please bring The Family back or Somebody or Some Other Broadcasting Please Pick This Up because Us Fans wants to Know what happens !!!

Such a shame.
It was a very good show. Great acting, unique story line & smart.
Bad decision!
There are many other shows that should be cancelled .. you definitely picked the wrong one!

I NEED THE FAMILY TO COME BACK ON!!!!! IT WAS AWESOME. :eek: The Family Show, was one of the best breathtaking story-line. Its not your typical show, it had a unique story, which is hard to come by. Very disappointing to receive the news, abc has canceled the show. Not a wise decision!

So disappointed. Liked the cast, great story line and every week, they hit you with huge Info. that most series only do for the finale... can't believe they draw you in and close the series with no ending for us.

This show was AMAZING I finally got to splurge on the whole season, and I get to the last episode and I get left hanging,to find out that the show has been canceled what a total bummer
