Scrappers is a British reality series that portrays the life of a family running a scrap yard and their crew members. The series originally premiered in August of 2014, and the second series, although set to broadcast in mid-2015, is only airing now, having debuted on March 1, 2016. Produced by Liberty Bell, and exec produced by Michele Carlisle and Jamie Isaaks, Scrappers was originally seen on BBC One, but the second series was moved to BBC Two. Each series contains 6 half-hour episodes.
Fiery-tempered Terry and fabulous Lindsay Walker own Bolton's Metro Salvage scrap yard. The couple is seen balancing their family life with the business that needs to be heeded to. Who could think that scrap yard operation is so complicated? But it is, and it takes a team consisting of the Walker family of five (Jemma, Jon and Cathy are the Walkers' grownup children), sales manager Lee, his 16-year old brother Dean, accountant Natalie, sisters and cafe keepers Debs and Michelle, and, of course, Chris, Dave and Coxy who actually deal with the scrap working in the yard. The crew, in fact, consists of over 30 employees some of whom have had problems with the law, and were not able to find work elsewhere.
Impressive ratings and renewal potential
Scrappers is a success for BBC, with the first series premiering to an audience of 5.2 million and averaging over 2 million viewers per episode. With VOD and repeat viewing included, a total of over 20 million viewers have watched the reality series. The secret of its success is the couple's charm and sense of humor as well as the roller-coaster work dynamics, so we may very well prepare ourselves for a renewal of Scrappers for another series.
