It’s official. Vera is getting its 13th mystery season of three new feature length films.
Brenda Blethyn will officially return for a 13th series as DCI Vera Stanhope, alongside actor and director David Leon who makes a return as Joe Ashworth.
Cast returning include Jon Morrison, who plays DC Kenny Lockhart and Riley Jones, who plays DC Mark Edwards.
Actor Kenny Doughty, who played DS Aidan Healey since 2015, recently announced his departure from the drama. Actress Ibinabo Jack, who has played DC Jacqueline ‘Jac’ Williams since 2018, will not be returning for the thirteenth series due to her theatre commitments. (Source: tvtonight.com.au)
Good news Vera fans! Vera Series 14 will return with a couple of episodes in January 2025, 1 year after the Team GB participation at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympics.
Brenda Blethyn, David Leon, Jon Morrison, Riley Jones and Rhiannon Clements will reprise their roles as DCI Vera Stanhope, DI Joe Ashworth, DC Kenny Lockhart, DC Mark Edwards and DC Stephanie Duncan respectively.

Vera is one of my very favorite shows. I enjoy her acerbic with and the way she's always four steps ahead of the crew, but still appreciates them. Brenda Blethyne makes her character a real and very complicated person. She has a history of her own, and we are given a glimpse now and again of her personal self, but not too much, just enough to keep us coming back for more of her love of solving mysteries. This show is one of the very best and I hope the powers that be renew it for another season.

why are there only four new Vera episodes this season. This is happening on all the show from Britain. Endeavor is going off after this next season also Grantchester is also seemingly on the way out. Time moves on … no good sows to come🥲🥲🥲🥲
The dates for the final 2 episodes of Vera Series 11 has been confirmed for Sunday 8 January 2023 and Sunday 15 January 2023: Vital Signs will air on Sunday 8 January 2023 followed by The Way The Wind Blows on Sunday 15 January 2023. The date for the next 4 episodes of Vera Series 12 has been confirmed on Sunday 22 January 2023 and Vera Series 12 will conclude on Sunday 12 February 2023, ahead of ITV's rival crime drama, Endeavour (1960s-set Inspector Morse prequel), the 9th and final series will air the following Sunday (Sunday 19 February 2023).
I love the British crime (police procedural) shows. They get down to police business without all the fluff and nonsense that American tv series indulge in. Also love the scenery in all the UK productions. I also love the authentic characters in that the women are not skinny model types that run around in 4 inch heels!
My wife and I watch Vera faithfully although my wife likes using captions to reinforce better understanding of the accents of different characters. We love the way in which British criminals know their "goose is cooked", so Vera just has to sigh "you're going to have to come with me." No resisting arrest with screaming, fighting and shooting. Very little car chasing and smashed-up car wrecks-- although Aiden does have to run after a few on occasion. We think the Brits must be very reasonable people. We hope a new series will be produced-- and certainly not in the U.S.
