Summary and Plot

Based on bestselling novels by Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall is a British historical drama television series that follows Thomas Cromwell through his rise in the court of Henry VIII. Receiving much praise from the critics, Wolf Hall season 1 premiered on BBC Two on January 21, 2015.

Winner of the 2016 Golden Globe, Wolf Hall is a beautifully set and filmed series that features brilliantly acting and writing. The series tells the story of Thomas Cromwell, who climbs up the ranks, going from a blacksmith’s son to an accomplished power broker in the treacherous world where ‘man is wolf to man’. Mark Rylance plays the powerful minister, who had to navigate through political intrigue in the midst of the religious upheavals of the Protestant reformation, protect the Tudor dynasty and help King Henry VIII be rid of Anne Boleyn, played by Claire Foy.

It's not often I can be bothered to watch a series several times, but the original "Wolf Hall" is one exception. Beautifully made and filmed, revealing the tragedy and human side of Thomas Cromwell. Small points of historical accuracy impress: For example, There are two longbow shooting scenes into period correct, raised earth-mound targets called "butts" (can't imagine why that name !). The longbows used look like they are made from superior Yew wood staves, with a stretchable sapwood front and a hardwood belly. There are no cloth or leather handles on the bows, or arrow-quivers (that's Hollywood). The men's bows look substantial enough to to have the heavy (100 lb+) draw weight of Tudor longbows raised from the Marie Rose. The bracing height of the bow string above the bow's belly wood is correctly demonstrated using the height of the fist and outstretched thumb. The actual shooting scenes look eerily authentic to this former Yew longbow shooter and re enactor.

I really enjoyed this series and I'd be very sad if we don't see the continuation of Jane Seymour's rise and Anne's demise. It was so well acted and, aside from some expected artistic license, really showed how cutthroat the English Court was during Henry VIII's reign. I didn't notice any of the usual bending of historic fact to try to make the viewer more or less sympathetic to any of the figures. I hope this isn't true.

I went to Damien’s web page-and emailed the administrator to find out the series status.
I also found a newspaper article written a year ago in May-where there was discussion if they could get Damien and Mark back for the second series. We’ll see if anyone answers. I’ll ask permission to share any reply I get.

I received a reply from Damian Lewis’s web site and was given permission to share this:
I’ll remain hopeful for now.?

“As far as we know from published articles from the author, Mirror and the Light TV adaptation was delayed by Covid like everything else, and therefore unlikely to be on our screens anytime soon. There has been no public statement saying M&L won't be adapted, and there has been no public statement that if it does get adapted, that Damian and Mark will reprise their roles, but the author was hopeful they would. Covid and schedules have affected many productions and it's too soon to know at this time. “

I have been a passionate fan of Tudor History for many years. Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies were superb books. The Mirror and the light was wonderful-but very long. I’m sure it can be adapted for a second series-but personally I’d love it to include the whole book. [smile]

What a fantastic adaptation of the Wolf Hall novel! I loved the way the characters were more true to the way they likely looked during the time of Henry VIII’s reign. It’s much more believable than having them all look like supermodels. I can’t say enough about the performances. All of the actors/actresses did a superb job.

Please PBS, give us a second season!

You must make Wolf Hall Season 2/The Mirror & the Light! You have to! You have a moral obligation to provide us with the conclusion of this fascinating saga - so beautifully written by Hilary Mantel.
From Britain to down here in New Zealand - we emplore you:
Get on with it! Don't use Covid as an excuse. It has to be done!

Please please BBC, do what only you can do and do so well .. Give us, grant us a sequel to Wolf Hall, with Mark Rylance .. You have an obligation to do this, to make history, to write (cinematoGRAPHY) this history as never done before. Hilary Mantel and Mark Rylance are exceptionally gifted for the opportunity to (re)tell this fantastic story, to make us viewers not just watch it and hear it but LIVE it!!
Rise to the occasion BBC, don't hesitate or dawdle and risk missing it. You will regret that forever.
The first season has been dauntingly beautiful and overwhelmingly powerful, I watched it twice and am now still enjoy reading the book, imagining the actors for Cromwell (magnificent), Wolsey (great cast!), king Henry (super), Anne, Norfolk, Thomas More (fantastic role) .. Do it for England and eternity.

Racist? That’s you. Ignorance seems to be everywhere with this Racist BLM daft rubbish. BLM is a disgrace to the human populace and is nothing more than a fascist terrorist group trying to cause violence and destruction and ruin to communities especially colored communities.

BBC confirmed the adaptation of The Mirror and the Light just before the Covid outbreak and I can't find an official reversal anywhere. I think we should take premierdate.news claims with a grain of salt until we can get a formal confirmation.

Wolf Hall 2 canceled? Bah, yea right. I don't believe that at all. Since when is BBC canceling series that half the world is waiting for? An 8-fold Emmy nominee. Do they not want to make money anymore?
