Granite Flats is the first original scripted thriller drama series for BYUtv — a station owned by Brigham Young University. Executive produced by Derek Marquis and Scott Swofford, the series is part thriller, part drama, and one hundred percent captivating. With its debut in April 2013, season 2 and season 3 premiered in April 2014 and April 2015, respectively. Christopher Lloyd and Cary Elwes joined the cast during the second season, while Parker Posey and George Newbern were added to season 3.
Set in the 1960’s, during the Cold War, Granite Flats storyline centers on a small town in Colorado and the citizens who inhabit it. Filmed entirely on location in Utah, the series features an eclectic mix of kid detectives, Soviet satellites, mind-control experiments, and of course American versus Russian spies.
Audience reception, ratings and reviews
Granite Flats has been gaining audiences every season, averaging approximately half a million viewers per episode. Positive critics’ and audience reviews have contributed to the show’s popularity and helped solidify a deal with Netflix. The online platform has become the official streaming home for Granite Flats, with all three seasons available for binge watching since May 2015. Although the show pulls in a rating of 8.4 our of 10 on IMBD, it’s not yet clear whether Netflix or BYUtv will renew it for another season. Thus far, no official news has been released regarding a possible renewal of Granite Flats for season 4. We’ll keep fans updated as soon as more information becomes available.

Updated February 24, 2016: In a somewhat contradictory move, BYU's hugely successful first original drama series Granite Flats has been canceled by the network. The channel's Director of Content Scott Swofford has made the official cancelation announcement in June 2015, declaring that the network will concentrate on additional original content instead. All three seasons are available on Netflix and on digital platforms.

totally ridiculous, incredibly frustrating, saddest and stupidest decisions made by a television station EVER! Our family was totally ? immersed into this series and lost connection to it for a while and rediscovered it again and we’re totally elated, addicted and loving ? ever binge watching moment!!! Only to find out it’s been canceled shattered each of our hearts Tom it’s!!! Why?? BRING IT BACK! PLEASE
