Summary and storyline
Jekyll and Hyde is a new British action, fantasy and drama TV series created and written by Charlie Higson. Produced by ITV Studios, it premiered on October 25, 2015 on ITV.
The series is loosely based on the classic The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but the lead character, Dr. Robert Jekyll (Tom Bateman), is the grandson of the book protagonist with the inherited case of a split personality. The action is set in Ceylon and London in the 1930s. Dr. Jekyll discovers the strange world that he's drawn into following his transformation into the brooding and fearless Hyde. There is an uncontrollable darkness within himself that he has to investigate and learn to harness. The supernatural forces that Hyde has to face and fight intertwine with the two love-related storylines. Hyde is attracted to Isabella “Bella” Charming (Natalie Gumede), a nightclub owner, while Jekyll feels affection for Lily Clarke (Stephanie Hyam), a medical student who assists him in researching the medical aspects of his transformation.
Viewer reception and chances of renewal
The debut of Jekyll and Hyde drew an impressive audience of 3,4 million viewers along with complaints to the network for being too violent for the 6:30 p.m. time slot on a Sunday, which is usually reserved for family viewing. ITV, however, refused to move the series to after the watershed, and confined its reaction to a warning that comes on prior to the show. The reviews have been mostly positive, mentioning great acting, intrigue and high production value, and everything seems to point to a continuation of the series for the next year. However, there has been no official word from the network on either a cancelation or a renewal of Jekyll and Hyde.
Latest developments
UPDATED January 6, 2016: Jekyll and Hyde will not be recommissioned for a second season, ITV announced on January 5, 2016. It might be that Charlie Higson's take on the classic horror story proved too violent, or the fact that the ratings were not as high as the network hoped. The series averaged 2.6 million viewers and wrapped up with a mere 1.8 million. The series creators already did some pre-production work in anticipation of a renewal, but their assurance did not prevent the series from being axed by ITV.

Please change your mind and let series 2 go ahead. If you don't, I'll kill myself.
UNBELIEVABLE,!!!!! :::::: no second series??? What a joke , all the [censored] that's on most channels , and this gets the chop!,,, ok maybe the time wasn't appropriate as it was quite early , and rather scary but surely some juggling could have been done to screen it a bit later, .what a waste , WHAT A BLOODY WASTE!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE,!!!!!!!! :::::::come on ITV get a grip , shake your head and get it back on fgs!!
I wonder if we could get some sort of online petition going , and maybe if enough people put their name on it , who knows!!!!!!!!!!!
Or maybe I'm wishful thinking!
It just gets me so angry when they cancel a brilliant series yet keep a load of old boring [censored] !!
Binge watching it online and hope for a revival nevertheless...
