Agent X Cancelled — TNT Series Not Returning for Season 2

Agent X is a new American action drama TV series that premiered on TNT on November 8, 2015. It was created by William Blake Herron, executive produced by Armyan Bernstein, Sharon Stone and William Blake Herron and produced by TNT Originals and Beacon Pictures.

Natalie Maccabee (Sharon Stone) is a newly elected United States Vice President, who finds out that among the other powers and responsibilities bestowed on her, she now has control over a clandestine special agent. Agent X, John Case (Jeff Hephner), an American-style James Bond is to assist the Vice President in protecting the country in difficult times, as he steps in when no one else – neither CIA, FBI or other government agencies – officially can. Action-packed, but perhaps all-too-familiar, the series is still of a certain entertainment value and hilarious at times. Sharon Stone is delightful in her role, and Agent X's dry humor has already attracted a fan following.

The series did pick up from what seemed like a rather unenthusiastically received premiere, but it's still under fire from critics and viewers alike. Perhaps it's too early to judge the first season as a whole, since at this point, averaging half a million viewers per episode, it's neither a failure nor a hit for the network. There's still a possibility that Elementary might develop into something more interesting with time, so let's give this espionage thriller a chance. Will the new James Bond manage to win the hearts of the viewers or critics?

Updated December 17, 2015: TNT's Agent X starring Sharon Stone is canceled after just one season on the grounds of low ratings. The series averaged just about 1.7 million viewers over the freshman season which is about to end on December 27, 2015. The critical reviews didn't offer much support for the series, which was deemed too banal in both its premise and implementation. Even Sharon's talented performance didn't save the day for Agent X, which actually hauled in better ratings than the other two canceled TNT shows, Public Morals and Legends, but still didn't quite reach the ratings mark that would have kept It on the air.

I just watched the first season of this amazing show. This could have run 20 episodes a year for five years. The premise is plausible, more believable than The Equalizer. It is as action packed as SWAT. And has some of the most talented actors in the industry, Gerald McRaney and Sharon Stone. Written well. Acted well. Obviously promoted poorly. I blame TNT for hot wanting it to succeed. This what really happens in our government, we just don't know about it.

I know it's 2022 but just watched Agent X for the 1st time. In 2022 I think it would have survived with retitlement and some advertising. It's much better than some higher rated shows such as The Equalizer. At least the action parts were more believable.

Too bad TNT values ratings over great performances. I just don’t understand why doing a great job isn’t enough. Anyway, it was an action packed story, better that Homeland, which lasted too long.

Agent X is a good show, I hope it should keep on going to the next season this year. Of course it just started late year and hopefully it'll keep continuing the show and see what happens next.

To bad this was a great series. T N T is like all the other networks, the bottom line. .Remember Cheers rating at the end of first season.

I liked this show a lot. The actors were good and the stories were interesting. In spite of what the critics said, I liked the premise. I like a plot that makes sense and that I can follow. I don't mind thinking -- in fact the smarter the show the better for me. But smart doesn't have to equal weird, like the critics' favorite "Mr. Robot". I think if TNT had spent any time advertising Agent X, more people would have watched. I didn't even know it existed until I happened on it on the "on-demand" feature from my cable company. This was a good, solid show that didn't have to die. If TNT would put it back on and do just a little bit to support it I think they would be surprised how many people would watch it. I'm so sick of "reality" and tabloid-type shows. Since our politicians have apparently gone crazy, not even watching the news is safe any more. So why is getting decent entertainment so hard, too?

I'm so disappointed that there won't be a season 2 of agent X. I just watched the first season on Hulu. This is a great show! Please bring it back!

This is a good show. The cast is great, so many different angles to run with. I am tired of junk TV, this is a great option - a return back to solid television. TNT, please reconsider your decision. Also think about bringing back Jericho (from NBC almost nine years ago. Again, more good TV erased from the minds of the viewers.

My husband and I loved Agent X. We enjoyed the actors, especially Sharon Stone, Jeff Hephner and Gerald McRaney. I'm so very disappointed.

Well we should have known! You get a decent show without foul language, over the top sex scenes and idiot stars and what do they do? They cancel it of course! I believe that if this would have been on a major network they would have probably had another season. I believe that networks want to believe the sheeple want to see more reality (God help us) shows because that is the kind of trash they just keep cramming down our throats! It is going to come to none of the networks having anything but that worthless type of programming!

With the plethora of trash TV--- "reality shows"- this and Legend were refreshing. I guess TV is starting to cater to the intellectually challenged instgead! :sad:
