Series info and format

Home Free is an American competition and reality TV series hosted by expert professional contractor Mike Holmes (Holms on Homes). Executive produced by Tom Forman (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) among others, the series premiered on FOX on July 22, 2015, and the second season debuted a year later, on June 16, 2016.

Home Free challenges nine couples to renovate run-down houses for others in hopes of winning their own dream home. Each week, Holmes presents the couples with tasks designed to test their knowledge and DYI skills. Like every reality TV show, competition is a large part of what fuels TV ratings. In an added twist contestants must all must co-exist 24/7 in the home while construction is in progress. That means that even when the work is done, couples are forced to stay in extreme conditions. Couples with the best work move forward, while those with sub-par performance must face elimination. Only two couples are left to battle it out at the end of the series, with one walking away winning the home of their dreams. The second season also introduced former NFL player and sports analyst Tim Tebow serving as a co-host with Mike Holmes

I would love to be able to give my sister a dream home. I was 13 when my mom passed she was only 18 and stepped up to teach me things that your mom usually would be there for. She is an amazing person that has 3 kids now and is raising them as a single mom. She is truly my hero!!! I love her for doing all she has done and still does for me.

I would love to be able to win a new home for my aunt Dorothy, she stepped in for me when my mom died at an early age. She's like my second mom even though she has her own children, and she did this for all her nieces and nephews since losing four sister all to different illiness---an for that she is my hero, because she didn't have to give us her time and love, but she did. I think she deserve a special place to call home for all of us to visit. Which we can surprise her with a visit!

My parents deserve a new home. My dad is a two-time cancer survivor, a stroke survivor, and a kidney failure survivor. My mom is also a cancer survivor and has also suffered through many other medical conditions.

I would love nothing more than the chance to win my mom and dad a home. They have suffered a great deal loosing 2 beautiful homes, one which my dad built over 30 years ago. They currently live in a trailor that really should be demolished. With my dad suffering many medical issues including dimentia and parkensons it hurts to see him not in a safe home. He owned a construction company for over 30 years and provided more for our family than I ca put in words. It breaks my heart. I wish I could give him a comfortable place where he can live knowing he was a great father and its not unnoticed. I just pray his suffering stops. And although he says hes ok his daughters can see he needs help. I wish this dream to come true. I would be honored to help him the way he has helped others. A veteran of the us among the most selfless people I know.

I am interested in being a contestant on this show. My brother and I made a pact that if anything happened to one of us we would take care of each other's family. My brother who was also my best friend passed away and unfortunately his wife and children lost their home. I have helped as much as I can both emotionally and also financially. I would appreciate the opportunity to win them a home. Please consider me when decisions are made for contestants.

Hi my name is Crystal I have a sister who have 6 children that don't have a place to live in will love to win her one of these houses that can help her in her children be comfortable instead of place to place my niece in nephews will love to sleep in the beds in be in peace . How do you apply for this show. I too have a brother who has been my best friend and hero. He has had the worst luck in life, yet he would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. Currently he, his wife and two grandchildren have no home of their own. They are living in the home of a lady they care for who has Alzheimer's.

My fear is once she passes, they have no place of their own to go to. We've offered our home but this is not a permanent solution. I would love to see what is involved in being on this show and try to win him and his family a home.

I am writing to you because I have a really special friend who has been a real "HERO" to me for years, and if there is any way for me to become one of your contestants on the show...PLEASE may I be one?! This man has kept me from being hungry and homeless for a few years now. And if there is anyone who deserves to have a nice home to live in, it's him & being on your show would be the BEST way I could ever imagine to show him how much I love and appreciate him as my friend. He's a rare person & I'd bust my butt on the show for him.

My Husband and I have been trying to get our first home but we both have medical issues that caused me to be on dis ability and him to work at a job he hates but he does it for our family. He is the best husband I could of ever asked for. He was there for me when I had cancer and when I had 3 heart attacks and open heart surgery. So please let me know how we can apply to be on the show my daughter's would like to to do this for my husband and I.

I really enjoyed watching this show with my family, I would like sign up on this show to be a contestant, I would compete for my father inlaw, this is a man that totally exemplify a total selfless man. He goes out to places that have been hit by natural disasters, he builds homes, provides training and medical assistants these are only a few of the things he does and you know the crazy part he suffers with severe kiddney stones. He once was on a roof and still working with the pain. I cant think of anybody more deserving of a home. I tell you this, he is a man that loves to serve and wont complain

We would like to compete for an opportunity to be on the show. We are both college students who have been raised by our Aunt (Auntie Mom) and Uncle (PaUncle) and are truly grateful. Their capacity to love us like we were their own children - even when they were not blessed to have one of their own is AMAZING. They have raised us in a home full of love, compassion, and spiritual strength. They challenge us to be the difference, to not complain,especially when you don't have a solution. They have put off pursuing their dream of home ownership to be there for the five other children (our siblings) in our family (total of 7). My Aunt has pushed past debilitating illness to be our biggest cheerleader. We just believe that although the cost of housing in Los Angeles is exorbitant, they will be able to have the house of their dreams in this area and it will be big enough to have us all be together and enjoy the love they give to us. Let us know how to sign up. We're kinda clumsy!

I really enjoyed season 1. I'm a little bummed with season 2 though. I love the fact that all the hero's get a home, but I don't like that the contestans know about it when they lose. It should be a surprise for both the contestant and their hero at the same time. I will absolutely continue watching, I just hope they go back to the way it was for next season.

:P How do you CHOOSE your contestants? I'd be happy with my OWN home, even if just the bunkers-lol- contestants stay in, even if a tiny home...I also have time to spare/kill...let me know-I REALLY enjoy your Season 2 show-One of FEW shows I watch on tv-looking forward to season 3, maybe you can include me in such of Season 4
