Joey King will topline an eight-part limited series at the streamer based on Georgia Hunter's bestseller about "a Jewish family separated at the start of WWII yet determined to reunite." Writer Erica Lipez and director Thomas Kail are spearheading the project for Old 320 Sycamore and 20th Television with Jennifer Todd likewise executive producing. King will co-executive produce and Kate Sullivan will produce.

Amazing story; not sure the negative review above read the same book. The family was split and everyone ended up in different directions. It is based on the real life facts of a family that was torn apart during WWII and all trying to survive on their own. it takes a few chapters to get into it but once you get started you can't put it down. My husband never reads but I talked him into reading this & he couldn't stop. I would give this book 10 stars!!! [smile]

The book, "We were the Lucky Unes," was very disappointing, so hopefully the movie version will be worth all the hype. The book read as if it was written as a decent, but infuriatingly one-dimensional, newspaper feature story. The characters lacked any genuine substance whatsoever. Despite the story's horrificc backdrop, the family and its members come across as utterly flat. There are no internal struggles, no personal flaws, no relationship struggles of any kind -- no tension between any of the characters, which is critical to creating a compelling story. Having read dozens of riveting Holocaust stories, I was expecting much more, and felt immensely let down.
