No Premiere Date for “The Last of Us” Season 2, Production Confirmed
”The Last of Us” Season 2 has been confirmed, although filming and production are expected to take the entirety of 2024 to complete. HBO has set their expectation for a 2025 release of “The Last of Us” Season 2. The show is based on the same titular PlayStation 3 video game, and was also written by Neil Druckmann who directed production of the game.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have been confirmed to reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie. “The Last of Us” Season 1 was a critical success for HBO, and was nominated for 24 Primetime Emmy awards and three Golden Globe awards. They are joined by a rotating cast of supporting crew members, who play scavengers and antagonists in the apocalypse-ravaged world. Zombie-like creatures known as “Clickers” roam the remains of civilization.
In a flashback 14 years ago, pregnant Anna battles infected creatures while giving birth to Ellie, whom she entrusts to Marlene before seeking her own death. In the present, Ellie and Joel explore the city. Joel reveals a painful truth about his past suicide attempt. In a hospital, Ellie faces potential surgery for a cure, leading to Joel's violent rescue mission. Despite conflicting choices, Joel escapes with Ellie, later revealing an encounter with Marlene. The journey continues towards Jackson, with Joel reassuring Ellie that everything will be alright and they did what they had to do in order to survive.

”The Last of Us” Season 2 will only be available for viewing on Max. Episodes will premiere on a weekly basis, and no date has been confirmed yet.

Pedro Pascal will return as Joel in “The Last of Us” Season 2, but right now he is currently slated for 8 other film credits. Two of those are completed (“Freaky Tales” and “Drive-Away Dolls,” two of them are in production (including a sequel to “Gladiator”) and two of them are beginning production. Pascal has nearly 8.3 million followers on his Instagram.
Starring opposite Pascal is Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie. She is set to play Barbara Field in “Monstrous Beauty,” which is beginning pre-production and scheduled for a late 2024 or early 2025 release. She has 3.6 million followers on her Instagram.

Good news for The Last of Us fans. Episode 5 will be hitting HBO Max two days early.
The next episode of the Pedro Pascal-led series will be available on HBO Max beginning February 10 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Usually, HBO originals debut on HBO Max at the same time the episode begins airing on the east coast.
The episode will also still air on HBO during its regularly scheduled time on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The east coast airing will conflict with the Super Bowl, which is likely the reason that HBO is debuting the episode early.

The premium cabler has ordered a second season of the series version of the PlayStation video game of the same name after only two episodes have aired, with the third set to run this Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.
