According to an insider familiar with the matter, Max's Dune prequel series, titled Dune: The Sisterhood, is poised to resume production in Budapest in the near future. The production is anticipated to persist despite the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes. Deadline was provided with this information.
HBO Max‘s Dune prequel TV series’ long journey to the screen is taking another turn. Dune: The Sisterhood (wt), which started production in late November, is undergoing a creative shift, a director change and a recasting.
Chernobyl executive producer Johan Renck, who had signed on to direct the first two episodes, has exited the project. Search is underway for his replacement as production has been put on hold. Shirley Henderson, who had been tapped as one of the leads, also is leaving. Her role as Tula Harkonnen will be recast. That is in addition to creator Diane Ademu-John, who had written the pilot script, stepping down as co-showrunner in the run-up to production, with veteran TV writer-producer Alison Schapker becoming sole showrunner of the Legendary-produced series. On Tuesday, reports indicated that the live-action series has lost one of its stars, Tula Harkonnen actress Shirley Henderson, as well as the director of the first two episodes, Johan Renck. The series is now expected to undergo a hiatus amid these changes, with reports indicating that the delay could be up to seven months. These exits occurred after the exit of showrunner Diane Ademu-John, who left the series right before it began production in late November, which reportedly led to major rewrites. According to reports, Renck's directing style also did not line up with HBO Max's vision for the show, and was seen as a "departure" from the style of Denis Villeneuve's films.

Again, this is a rumor - take with a grain of salt. Hopefully official news will be coming soon.
The spice must flow! Christopher Walken has joined the cast of Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve’s continued adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel. The veteran actor will be portraying Emperor Shaddam IV. While unseen in the first film, the all-powerful ruler was established as a forbidding presence, being in league with House Harkonnen in the quest to sabotage House Atreides. Alongside Timothée Chalamet, Dune stars returning include Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, and Javier Bardem. Other newcomers are Florence Pugh, who will be playing the emperor’s daughter Princess Irulan, and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, a Harkonnen heir and Paul’s sworn enemy. (source: The A.V. Club.com)
The series, which serves as a prequel to the films, was originally handed a straight-to-series order in 2019 by HBO Max. At the time, Denis Villenueve, who directed and produced 2021 film Dune: Part One, was set to direct the pilot.
However, Renck, who is currently finishing up sci-fi feature film Spaceman with Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano, will take over that mantle and will also exec produce.

While updates on HBO Max's Dune: The Sisterhood have been few and far between since the project was first announced, Dune director Denis Villeneuve assures the spinoff series is still "moving forward."
The Sisterhood was first announced for WarnerMedia's then-unnamed streaming service in mid-2019 as a Dune prequel series focusing on the Bene Gesserit. However, Jon Spaihts departed the series as showrunner by the end of the year. In mid-2021, Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor) was reportedly tapped as Spaihts' replacement.
While discussing The Sisterhood back in September 2021, Villeneuve declined to say whether or not Ferguson's Lady Jessica would factor into the HBO Max spinoff. "It's a beautiful project, but it's in development," he said. "And when things are in development, I have a tendency, I want to protect them because it's in a fragile state." (source: cbr.com)
