CBS To Air ‘Yellowstone’ Premiere On Same Day It Returns to Paramount Network
That’s a wrap for John Dutton. Kevin Costner ended speculation about his future with the Paramount mega-hit on Thursday night, announcing in a video on his Instagram account that he will not return to “Yellowstone” for the final half of Season 5.
The announcement came just hours after Paramount revealed that Season 5 Part 2 will premiere in November, with or without its leading star. Filming began in May.
Although Costner did not address the behind-the-scenes drama that has plagued the Paramount Network hit since it went on hiatus in January 2023, his departure is closely linked to it. The actor cited the demands of his planned four-part Western film franchise, “Horizon: An American Saga,” as the reason he won’t be returning to portray Dutton family patriarch John Dutton in “Season 5B or in the future.”

The ranch is located in an area of constant conflict, surrounded by an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and fierce business rivalries. The show explores shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and the hard-earned respect of the Dutton family.
"YELLOWSTONE" has been very successful, consistently ranking as the #1 primetime entertainment program on CBS during its Sunday night broadcasts, with an average of 5.49 million viewers per episode.
