It's a shame. Because a lot of love went into the writing. Especially between Megabyte and Hex. And its wasted on this.
Reboot was about an antivirus program fighting viruses in a computer. We never saw the human world. It was this... enigmatic other place that was talked about almost like a superstition.
If it was its own show or a Code Lyoko adaptation then I think it would have been great. And I would like a true remake of the original Reboot too.
Ah well... At least we got new Hex lines.
The premise is vaguely similar though it doesn't explore the outside world. Its specifically about an antivirus program (a guardian) coming from the net to combat the viruses on a computer called "mainframe". And how someone called "the user" keeps installing and playing games on this computer and doing damage to the citizens (programs and software) as a result.
The only barrier to entry is the fact that it holds the honor of being the very first episodic series designed for television done entirely in CG back in 1994... Meaning the animation isn't very good at the start of the show since the technology was still very new. It does drastically improve as the show goes on though.
