Discovery Channel Axes Darkness – No Season 2

Be afraid! Be very afraid! Discovery Channel kicked off the most surreal reality adventure television series ever made (at least in my book!) on August 2nd, 2017 with their brand new experiment called Darkness. The show hails from the production company Discovery Go and Electus and is the brain child of Max Levenson, a philosophy Ph.D dropout, who decided to go to Hollywood and make TV. The show uses the latest technological advances in videography and infrared cameras that emit almost no light and are invisible to the naked eye. To ensure the safety of the participants, the caves are being scanned via LIDAR, which maps out 3D spaces via an invisible laser pulse.

The show is every bit as scary as it sounds, but being afraid of the dark is not the only thing the participants have to worry about. Not. At. All. Hypothermia, loss of time and falling a few feet is all very much hyped up in absolute complete darkness. Never mind the visions and hallucinations everyone will face after a while, as the body naturally tries to compensate the unnatural environment. Three volunteers are being dropped off in a cave, which has just recently been discovered and they first have to find their way to each other and then the way out back into the light. After six days, if they are still in the cave, they will be pulled out by the producers, because the six day mark is also the limit a human can survive in absolute darkness before real problems occur as the sensory deprivation may lead to them losing their minds.
