The statement, that Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero would not be renewed after the second season, was made by creator and voice artist Sam Levine on his Tumblr page, where he announced the end of the animation series with the second season. If we were to ask for the real reason, well maybe the viewing figures had something to do with it, because they fell from a strong 2.91 Million at the beginning of the first season significantly down to a mere 110,000 viewers. This is a huge drop in numbers and everyone can do the math – this show wasn’t popular enough for Disney to keep it going. What is all the more surprising is the fact that the show actually has amazing overall ratings, boasting a strong 8.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb and a whopping 9.8 out of 10 stars on TV.com, which is definitely one of the highest ratings we have seen so far. There is even a petition out there to save the show from being cancelled. Given the fact that this decision was made during the summer of last year, it’s not likely to be reversed.
General information and cast
Currently in its second installment, the children’s animation series Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero originally debuted on the Disney XD channel on December 5th, 2014 with the first episode and then officially premiered on February 13th, 2015 with 21 episodes for season 1. Season 2 then followed on July 10th, 2017 with 14 brand new episodes. However, it had already been announced the previous year that the second installment would also be the last and final season. The show is created by Jared Bush and Sam Levine and the show hails from the production company Disney Television Animation.
What happens when two superheroes have a child? Penn Zero is exactly that – the son of two superheroes – who kind of inherits their job as a part-time hero. Every day he is transported into a different dimension, where he and his friends have to survive more adventures and try to save the world. Penn Zero is voiced by Thomas Middleditch, his friend Boone Wiseman is voiced by Adam DeVine, Sashi Kobayashi by Tania Gunadi and Phyllis by Sam Levine. Alfred Molina and Larry Wilmore also star.
