General information and cast
On June 28th, 2017 the comedy series Hood Adjacent with James Davis premiered on Comedy Central with eight brand new episodes. The show is created by James Davis and Doug Karo, produced by Central Productions and Dakota Pictures and executive produced by Rikki Hughes, Jim Margolis, Shawna Wexler, Alex Murray and the two head writers Sean O'Connor and James Davis, who is also one of the main cast. Norman Nixon Jr. and Deray Davis also star.
Providing a unique insight into the world he grew up in – as the only white kid in a white circle of friends – comedian and writer James Davis returns to where he was born, which was adjacent to the projects in South Central L.A., and shares his thoughts about the area and his upbringing – mixed with a lot of comedy. He talks about his definition of “the hood” and the two extreme ways it is projected, either by being villainized or glamorized. The series features parts of his stand-up comedy gigs as well as unscripted segments out on the road. Davis investigates the differences between levels of privilege and culture in his very own way.
