The action comedy series Comrade Detective is a remake of an old Romanian television show, which aired back in the 1980s in Romania and became the country’s longest running and most popular series. Currently in its very first season, the sexy and gritty cop show was picked up by Amazon for six episodes and the new version of Comrade Detective is produced by A24, Amazon Studios and Free Association and executive produced by lead actor Channing Tatum, the creators Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, as well as Alex Tanaka, Reid Carolin, Ravi Nandan, Rhys Thomas and John Hodges, to name just a few.
It’s in the middle of the cold war and the Romanian government was busy promoting communist ideals and nationalism. Comrade Detective tells the story of two detectives Gregor Anghel (played by Channing Tatum as well as Florin Piersic Jr.) and Iosif Baciu (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who investigate the murder of a fellow officer. What these two men don’t know – during this investigation they actually uncover a plot to destroy their country and at that time, Romania had mainly one great enemy – capitalism. Jenny Slate, Olivia Nita, Jason Mantzoukas, Florin Galan, Chloë Sevigny and Nick Offerman also star.
