UPDATED October 3, 2017: As many have predicted, the Spike TV network has made a decision not to renew their new horror and thriller drama and officially cancelled the show – there will be no Season 2 for The Mist. The cancellation decision was driven by the poor ratings performance as the TV adaptation of Stephen King’s novel barely averaged 0.4 million viewers per episode. The reviews were lukewarm as well.

In the upcoming year, Spike TV will relaunch itself as Paramount Network and the bosses are already looking at their future programming lineup and what kinds of shows they want to bring with them or not. It was made very clear that only television shows, which bring in certain numbers, will be renewed for the new network, so it literally all depends on the performance of the show during its first season. The Mist premiered to an audience of 684,000 viewers, which then dropped to around 500,000 per episode. The 18-49 demo rating averages 0.15, which isn’t exactly ground breaking. The show itself looks great, but critics call it very poor and the overall ratings confirm the downward trend with 5.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb and only 59% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. The somewhat more positive 7.6 out of 10 stars on TV.com don’t really make a difference, as the ratings from this site are generally higher. With these kinds of numbers and the relaunch of the network next year, it could very well be that The Mist might fall through the cracks./p>
General information and cast
Based on the eponymous book by none other than horror master Stephen King, The Mist is a sci-fi horror thriller, which airs on Spike TV and premiered on June 22nd, 2017 with ten brand new episodes. Christian Torpe adapted the book for the television series, and the show is produced by Dimension Television and executive produced by Guy J. Louthan, Amanda Segel and Christian Torpe. The main characters are played by Alyssa Sutherland as Eve Copeland, Morgan Spector as Kevin Copeland, Gus Birney as Alex Copeland and Luke Cosgrove as Jay Heisel. Okezie Morro, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner and Frances Conroy also star.
Strange things are happening in a sleepy town in Maine called Bridgeville, where the daughter of the Copeland family is brutally attacked. What is even stranger than the horrific crime is the sudden mist that rolls into town and literally overwhelms everything and everyone. Not only that, but this mist brings a whole array of threats, which are nothing short of confusing and all the more concerning as nobody in this town really knows what to make of it. The biggest fight in all of this is to keep the sanity in this foggy environment.
