UPDATED September 17, 2017: The first installment of this singing competition program just concluded its 6-episode run in July, and unfortunately the BBC network has just officially cancelled Pitch Battle after just one series – there will be no Series 2 for the show. The new series just didn’t hit the note with the audiences and delivered disappointing ratings that were not high enough to warrant a second chance.

Times are definitely changing, in particularly for television shows that are broadcast live, and what once was based on overall viewing figures now has to compete with social media posts and immediate viewer reactions all across Facebook, Twitter and other online sources, where the audience has an outlet either to vent or to make a situation or scene go viral in an instant. This is very much the case with Pitch Battle, where the singing itself doesn’t create half as much uproar than the blunders being shown live on television. When legend Chaka Khan doesn’t know ‘shortbread’ from her jewelry and when judge Kelis accidentally opens the winner’s envelope too early, viewers went ballistic on social media and immediately caused quite a storm in both cases. As for the show itself, there is not much information out there at all.
General information and cast
The British singing competition series Pitch Battle originally debuted on June 17th, 2017 on the network BBC One with five episodes. Hosted by Mel Giedroyc, the show is produced by Tuesday's Child Television Ltd and was inspired by the 2012 movie of the same name.
In Pitch Battle, thirty of Britain’s best vocal groups and choirs literally battle it out in front of a group of judges in a series of singing challenges. In a series of three rounds, Judges Gareth Malone, Kelis and Deke Sharon get to decide who wins the sing-or-sung-off vocals. Guest stars include Will Young, Chaka Khan, Bebe Rexha, Seal, Joe Jonas, Jermaine Jackson, Nick Jonas and Deke Sharon.
