General information and cast
The very first season of the brand new reality TV series Devil’s Canyon premiered on the Discovery Channel on June 6th, 2017 with five episodes. Starring three extreme survivalists and opportunists Boyce Goff, Ben van der Valk and John Belcik, the series is produced by Magilla Entertainment and AMS Pictures and executive produced by Jason Fox, Matt Ostrom, John Slaughter and Laura Johnson.
This Devil’s Canyon harbors a secret only very few know about and three men make their way into this remote and very wild area in British Columbia to uncover what is hiding there – Gold! This place supposedly holds the largest creekside gold deposit in the world. The canyon sits way off the beaten path with no roads or trails, far beyond the reach of mining companies. These three guys Boyce Goff, Ben van der Valk and John Belcik travel separately and face the harsh conditions by themselves. The main premise is the search for the hidden gold and at the same time to simply survive the wilderness they are surrounded by.
Overall ratings and a possible season 2
For the premiere of Devil’s Canyon, 0.886 Million people tuned in to watch it, giving the new show on Discovery Channel a 0.22 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The overall rating of 6.7 out of 10 stars confirms the trend of this documentary series. It’s not a disaster for the network, but it’s also not exactly a huge hit either. Some fans find this new endeavor too scripted and not at all authentic in terms of a reality TV show. The obvious question, if these three guys will return with some gold is just as unanswered as the question regarding a possible second installment of this show. As of today, Discovery Channel has not yet made any official announcements regarding the future of the series.
