The first season of Discovery Channel’s reality TV show Unearthed premiered with five hour-long episodes on May 1st, 2017. The series is produced by Zodiak NYC and executive produced by Mike Gamson, Neil Regan and Joe Schneier.
There seem to be a few TV series out there, which feature the exact same title, but this one is the very first of its kind and offers a unique insight into the world of black truffle hunters. Each year – and only for ten weeks at a time – these men go out into the ancient forests around Falls City in Oregon and hunt for one of the most expensive ingredient in the world. This delicacy, which is also known as “food of gods”, is almost impossible to come by and yet these men forage through a secret world of backwoods for truffles more valuable than gold. The series shows the competition and the hardship that comes with being such a foraging truffle hunter after a season of drought. Roy Siegfried and Terry Drazdhoff are the old-timers and original truffle hunters, closely followed by Ty Hale and Levy Schwartzendruber, who are the new generation. Richie Maxfield and Justin Anderson both work alone and try to find some luck in these woods.
