In an unprecedented move for the Emmy Award-winning anthology series, the upcoming eight-part season will delve into the lives of two iconic visionaries, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and explore how their conflicting ideologies played a pivotal role in guiding America through the Civil Rights Movement.

Produced by 20th Television in collaboration with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Television, along with the company's President of Television, Kristen Zolner, the series is spearheaded by the renowned creative duo Reggie Rock Bythewood ("Swagger," "Shots Fired") and Gina Prince-Bythewood ("The Woman King," "Shots Fired"). They have earned acclaim for their groundbreaking films and series through their production company, Undisputed Cinema. Serving as showrunners and executive producers are Raphael Jackson Jr. and Damione Macedon ("Power," "Mosquito Coast").

The ensemble cast features Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Aaron Pierre as Malcolm X, Weruche Opia as Coretta Scott King, and Jayme Lawson as Betty Shabazz. This series also marks one of the final roles for the Emmy-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones.

GENIUS: MLK/X, produced by Undisputed Cinema, endeavors to tell character-driven stories that are both timely and timeless, focusing on the humanity of people of color.

I loved Season 3 about Aretha. She was a musical genius. She had perfect pitch, self taught piano player. Her voice was a falcon-soprano, which is rare. She had many obstacles to overcome and she did it. Great job. I felt the actors captivate the people they portrayed.

Third season was just ok! Surprised that ARETHA was chosen as a GENIUS? Prodigy, great talent, yes, but I think there were many better choices.

Ok Aretha was a special talent but Genius? Most of her songs were covers. She couldn’t even read music. She had a natural born talent but genius... no.

I'll watch, of course, but I agree a different subject would have been preferable. I would love to see them go way back, to Newton, or Plato, or Socrates, or Copernicus, or Aristotle......

Like millions of fans, I love Aretha's voice. But featuring her as the subject "genius" on this series, in the same company as Einstein? Seriously? Who's next, Oprah?

Of all people to do a documentary on and you pick Aretha? ??

This is disappointing to me. I watched the first two and learned so much about not just the history of the person but the times and countries portrayed. Ms. Franklin, while an interesting and talented person, is just too recent. Also, I was hoping that NatGeo would steer clear of persons that fit the typical American celebrity definition. We are already bombarded by news stories, movies, and articles about their lives. Waiting for Season 4...
