Background story

The first season of the action crime drama and The Blacklist spinoff series called The Blacklist Redemption premiered on the NBC Channel with eight episodes on February 23rd, 2017. Created by Jon Bokenkamp, John Eisendrath, J.R. Orci and Lukas Reiter, the series is produced by Johns, The 1, Davis Entertainment and Universal Television and executive produced by David Amann, John Davis and John Fox amongst others. On May 12th, 2017, NBC cancelled the series after its first season.

Former ex-husband of Agent Keen from the original series The Blacklist, Tom Keen, who is played by Ryan Eggold, is an undercover operative joining forces with the brilliant and cunning Susan Hargrave, also known as Scottie and played by Famke Janssen, the chief of a mercenary organization called Grey Matters. This company solves the kinds of problems the government doesn’t like to touch (even though that seems hard to believe these days). Picking up snippets of the original series, The Blacklist Redemption basically follows Tom Keen as he hunts down his wife’s attacker. He also finds out, that Scottie is his wife’s biological mother, which in turn leads Tom to a search about his own past.

No Season 2 despite decent ratings

It is not always very logical, when looking at mere numbers, why a series will be renewed or why not. With an overall solid rating of 7.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb and 7.9 out of 10 on TV.com and then some not so shabby viewing figures of around 4.2 Million viewers per episode, one could think that this series is absolutely safe and will definitely be renewed for another season. Unfortunately, this is not the case for The Blacklist Redemption, as the NBC network has axed the show and kicked it out of its line-up. The reasons are not clear, however, the mothership series, The Blacklist was just renewed for an upcoming fifth season. Let’s see if NBC execs change their mind and give Season 2 of The Blacklist Redemption a second chance.
