The brand new crime drama Rebel premiered with its first season on the BET network on March 28th, 2017 with nine episodes. Created by Amani Walker, the series is produced by MarVista Entertainment and Silver Screen Pictures and executive produced by Randy Huggins, Michael McGahey, Robyn Snyder and Fernando Szew, to name just a few. The main characters are played by Danielle Moné Truitt as Rebecca "Rebel" Knight, Method Man as Terrance "TJ" Jenkins, Brandon Quinn as Thompson "Mack" McIntyre and Angela Ko as Cheena. Mykelti Williamson and Giancarlo Esposito also star.
Rebel examines the conflicted struggles of police officers of color in their jobs at a time when brutality and misconduct is all just too prominent in their everyday lives. This extraordinary take tells the story of Rebecca “Rebel” Cole, who is one to follow the rules to a tee, having to be better and smarter than her fellow colleagues at her job – because she is female and black. When an incident occurs, where her brother gets brutally murdered by the police, Rebel finds herself in the midst of a disorganized system and decides to take matters into her own hands, trying to figure out how this could have happened. She turns into a private investigator and a real force for her community, caught between her loyalty towards her family and her career as a cop and her actions set wheels into motion that she cannot turn back.
