On February 21, 2017 the first season of the animation Bunsen is a Beast premiered on the children’s network Nickelodeon with eleven episodes. Produced by Billionfold and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, the series is executive produced by Butch Hartman, who is also the creator and writer of the children’s series. Bunsen is a Beast is based on a drawing by Butch Hartmann from back in 2009, when he drew a monster and a boy. He had originally planned to turn this idea into a book, but then Nickelodeon came along and encouraged Hartmann to turn this into a children’s animation.
The story of Bunsen is a Beast literally tells the story of a beast named Bunsen, who attends a human school called Muckledunk Middle School. As a beast ambassador he tries to educate his school mates that his species is not that different from the humans at all and he even has a very best friend called Mikey Monroe, who tries to help him along the way. Obviously there is always someone, who doesn’t like Bunsen’s kind and a very mean girl called Amanda is on very own mission to have Bunsen gone so that his species will become extinct. That’s mean! Bunsen however, goes about his daily life fitting in and learning as much as he can about the humans, hoping that one day, humans and beasts can absolutely live together in peace – as long as you don’t feed Bunsen beets!
