UPDATED October 4, 2017: This rarely happens with newly launched Netflix original shows as most of them get renewed for at least one more season, but the streaming company has made a decision not to renew Girlboss for Season 2 – the comedy series has been cancelled after just one run. This is a third original series to be cancelled by Netflix this year, including Sense8 and The Get Down.

On April 21st, 2017 a brand new original Netflix comedy web series titled Girlboss was released consisting of thirteen episodes. Produced by Netflix, the series is based on the autobiography by Sophia Amoruso, created by Kay Cannon, who also executive produces together with Christian Ditter and Brittney Segal, who is also involved with the Santa Clarita Diet. The amazing Charlize Theron also acted as executive producer in one of the episode, so did the author of the original book Sophia Amoruso.
In a nutshell, a girl, who is broke, starts her own online-business, which becomes huge and she becomes famous. The series pretty much lets us follow her in her footsteps as her life and success unfolds. Britt Robertson plays the role of this girl, whose name is Sophia Marlowe, and we also get to see Ellie Reed, Johnny Simmons, Alphonso McAuley and even RuPaul as Sophia’s neighbor Lionel.
Since its launch just over a week ago, the Netflix release Girlboss has definitely caused some uproar amongst those, who might have misunderstood the initial intention of this comedy – as in this being a comedy. Meaning funny. And you are supposed to laugh at it. Unfortunately, this rebellious character seems to rub everyone up the wrong way and there are numerous articles out there criticizing her attempt at strong feminism a mere disaster. Rotten Tomatoes completely agrees with that last word and gives Girlboss a rotten 32%, just like Metacritic didn’t really agree with the show, giving it a mere 53 out of 100. However, over 3000 viewers on IMDb gave this comedy 7.2 out of 10 stars, which indicates that Girlboss has definitely found its fan base.
