On February 6th, 2017 a new and exciting documentary series called The Shocking Truth premiered on the E! network – one that is really worth a look! Produced by Pyramid Productions in association with Bell Media and executive produced by Larry Day and Kirstie McLellan. The creator and director of this series is Buddy Day. The first season consists of 12 episodes, each depicting one famous movie.
Whether we have actually watched them or not, most of us have at the very least heard of such super famous Horror movies as Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, Jaws, Goodfellas, The Exorcist and The Amityville Horror, just to name a few. However, most of us are not actually aware of the fact that real life events are what sparked the inspiration of the creators of these films. And these particularly disturbing true cases of murder and paranormal activities. What adds an extra kick to The Shocking Truth Season 1 are the interviews with the actual stars of those movies with such high class appearances as Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins, whose famous Silence of the Lambs was inspired by serial Killer Ted Bundy, as well as Linda Blair, Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo.
Whether we like these very scary, violent and brutal movies or not – the fact that they are based or at least inspired by some real life events, instead of just being a product of some sick imagination, makes them either much harder to watch or all the more interesting. Whatever your preference is, this show is definitely interesting to watch and with a very convincing overall rating of 9.5 out of 10 on IMDb, which is particularly high for this site, it can only indicate that the audience absolutely agrees with that. E! has not yet made any announcements, if they will continue with a second installment of this rather unsettling series, but given the generally excited and positive reception it is rather likely that we will see a renewal, rather than a cancellation.
