Series inspiration and plot
Back in the day, when kids read books, Astrid Lindgren was one of those authors, who brought our childhood to life. Books and Series like Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson on the roof and Ronja the Robber’s Daughter are just some of those amazing stories and the latter has now also been turned into a TV series, which premiered on streaming giant Amazon on January 27th 2017. This Japanese Anime is produced by Dwango, Polygon Pictures and Studio Ghibli and directed by Goro Miyazaki, the executive producers are Nobuto Ariyoshi and Atsuko Kashiwagi.
This beautiful and innocent story of a young girl named Ronja, the daughter of the leader of a clan of robbers back in medieval Scandinavia. On the night of her birth, a powerful lightning strike splits their castle in half and Ronja, her father Matt and the rest of the clan now live on one side of it. When Borka and his group of robbers move into the other half of the split castle, the rivalry between the two clans erupts once more. But that does not seem to bother the two children, as Ronja quickly becomes best friends with Birk, son of Borka. Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is narrated by none other than X-Files agent Gillian Anderson and the voice of Ronja comes from Teresa Gallagher. Kelly Adams voices Birk and we also get to hear Rufus Hound, Rasmus Hardiker and Bob Golding.
Current season and critical acclaim
With an overall rating of 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb, where it was surprisingly the 45 and older viewers, who gave the highest ratings, and an average 4.2 out of 5 stars on Amazon, this Anime series is clearly in the top categories. And as a lot of viewers might get nostalgic around this particular series, it can only help the fact, that it won’t just be kiddies watching this beautifully innocent Anime about friendship against all odds – something that very much lightens the mood in the current world we a living in! Will there be a season 2? Amazon tends to watch the viewing figures for a while, before making a decision, so we will have to wait and see, if there will be a second run for Ronja the Robber’s Daughter.
