UPDATED September 21, 2017: Nine months after the debut installment of this reality series concluded on the E! channel, the network has officially announced its decision not to renew Mariah's World for Season 2 – the show has been cancelled. The decision was not driven by the show’s performance, we have learned. The docuseries was, in fact, originally planned as a one-time run to document Mariah Carey’s 2016 world tour.

About the series
A new reality series Mariah's World has debuted on E! on December 4, 2016. Executive produced by Gil Goldshein, Jeff Jenkins, Farnaz Farjam, Stella Bulochnikov and Mariah Carey herself, the show hails from Bunim/Murray Productions and Magic Carpet Productions. The freshman season contains 45-minute episodes.
Once in a blue moon the “celebreality” genre features a program about a real high-caliber star, and Mariah's World is definitely one of those, focused on one of the top recording artists in history. The series is a part of a marketing campaign surrounding Carey's The Sweet Sweet Fantasy European tour and also explores her preparations for marriage. Members of her family and friends are all involved in this up close and personal look at her life that these two storylines follow.
Mixed reception and renewal potential
Despite Mariah Carey's exceptional popularity with the fans of her singing, the series is receiving mixed reviews and scored just 5.6/10 on IMDb, 44% on Rotten Tomatoes and 51% on Metacritic. The premiere episode drew a top-notch audience of 1.2 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating, but experienced a decline to 0.81 million and 0.41 in the demo by the second week. Mariah Carey herself has stated that the show is supposed to let the viewers get a closer look at her persona, not just portray her doing mundane things, as some other reality series do.
