About the series
On July 5th, 2017 the Food Network launched the fifth season of Cooks vs. Cons, a cooking competition series branded as “aspirational”. The show is hosted by Geoffrey Zakarian, judged by Daphne Oz together with a number of appearing guest judges. The series hails from Cakehouse Media and is executive produced by Art Edwards, Buddy Valastro with Nick Briscoe and Drew Seltzer II co-executive producing.
The idea for the show blends a mystery aspect into the reality cooking competition format. Per episode, two professional chefs and two home cooks participate in a pre-set challenge, attempting to impress the judges with their skills as they cook a dish in the span of 30 minutes. The judges are also supposed to guess who the pros and the amateurs are, and if an amateur wins, his or her reward is $15,000, while a pro would only receive $10,000.
