New addition to Netflix's documentary slate
Captive is a Netflix original true-crime docuseries that was launched on December 9, 2016. After the success of its hit documentary program Making a Murderer, the network apparently decided to delve deeper into the genre with the winning team of executive producers – two-time Oscar winner Simon Chinn (Man on Wire), Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), Emmy Award-winner Jonathan Chinn, Lisa Nishimura, Dave Bartis, Gene Klein, Adam Del Deo and Jason Spingham-Koff. Netflix, Lightbox and Hypnotic are behind the production.
Over the course of eight episodes the series investigates the most difficult hostage situations of the recent times and the negotiations held in order to emerge from them with the fewest casualties and least damage possible. Some of the cases explored have been highly publicized, some are coming into the public eye for the first time. Victims, their loved ones, professional negotiators, government officials, even the kidnappers themselves are featured in this gripping show.
