Storyline and production info
A new British comedy horror series Crazyhead has premiered on E4 on October 19, 2016 and should stream internationally on Netflix after the UK transmission. The six-part show hails from Urban Myth Films, is created and written by Misfits creator Howard Overman and executive produced by Overman with Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps.
The series is a hilarious take on demon hunting, and centers on Amy (Downton Abbey's Cara Theobald) and Raquel (Chewing Gum's Susan Wokoma) as the demon fighters. The twosome is in their early twenties: Amy is an attendant at a bowling alley, and at first she is concerned that her newfound abilities are just a sign of going mad, and Raquel is a socially inept, but armed with a baton as a weapon against demons. They are attempting to manage the usual troubles of young adulthood while slaying demons Buffy-style. Ordinary relatable issues like friendship, responsibility and romance are of no less importance in Crazyhead than the actual demon hunting.
Ratings, reviews and renewal prospects
The series has a 6.6/10 IMDb score, and has garnered mostly positive reviews. Viewers and critics alike praise it for being hilarious, well-paced and perfectly acted. It is a bright, fresh, punchy modern take on the teen mystery action drama genre. The fact that the two girls aren't endowed with any superpowers, but instead can “see” which people are possessed by demons makes the characters more relatable and the plot more interesting. Stay tuned, and we will inform you when E4 makes a decision on whether to renew the show for a second series.
