Series' concept and production info
A British documentary series launched by Sky1 in 2015, Prison: First and Last 24 Hours, presented its second series on October 17, 2016. The series is produced by STV Productions and Group M Entertainment and executive produced by Mick McAvoy and Melanie Darlaston, with the current series narrated by Gavin Mitchell. Series two contains eight forty-five minute episodes.
The series follows prisoners in four Scottish prisons in either their first 24 hours in or the last hours before release. These are definitive moments in the prisoners' jail time, and they are portrayed through interviews with both prisoners and prison staff. Prison governor Willie Stuart invited the camera crews inside the jail entrusted to him in order to break up the commonly held misconceptions about prison life. Many of the prisoners, especially female prisoners, are behind bars due to mental illness, abuse and violence of various sorts and chemical addiction, and require help in recovering from the consequences in order to stop the criminal cycle.
